HPE’s Acquisition of SGI

As I am sure you have heard, on August 11, 2016, Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced a definitive agreement to acquire SGI. We view this as very positive and a strong validation of the technology that we have been exclusively providing and dedicated to over the past twenty one years.  The world of High Performance Computing is evolving and changing at an ever increasing pace and we are committed to continuing to be here for our customers through the transition and moving forward.

HPE and SGI will operate as separate companies until the transaction closes, it will be business as usual for us over the next several months.  Beyond that timeframe SGI’s established base of Federal and scientific customers will be a positive addition to HPE’s customer base.  The complimentary scale-up and scale-out products from SGI, specifically UV and ICE, will strengthen HPE’s position at the top end of the HPC market.  As the acquisition structure unfolds we will convey what we know.  In the meantime, do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you or your staff may have.

Before ComnetCo was founded in 1995 I had many years of experience with both HP and Silicon Graphics.  I believe that the acquisition of SGI by Hewlett Packard Enterprise will place us in a stronger position to help support and improve the research computing efforts of our customers.
